Abstract

Collaboration between government and community in managing natural resources is increasingly relevant in the modern era, especially in the context of ecotourism development. Tanjung Rejo Tourism Village, with its great Mangrove ecotourism potential, is an interesting example to be studied further. The existence of extensive Mangrove forests and supported by local wisdom in its management offers great opportunities for the development of nature-based tourism. This study aims to analyze existing Mangrove ecotourism management policies, identify weaknesses, and evaluate their implementation in the field. In addition, this study also aims to formulate a collaboration strategy between the government, community, and stakeholders, so that Mangrove ecotourism management can run more optimally and sustainably. The location of the study was in Tanjung Rejo Tourism Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. This approach was chosen because the study aims to understand in depth the form of collaboration between the government and community in managing Mangrove ecotourism in Tanjung Rejo Tourism Village, as well as how this collaboration is organized through the DMO theory. The study also shows that this collaboration has a significant impact. In addition to increasing environmental awareness, ecological management also provides benefits to local communities through job creation and increased income from the tourism sector. The role of the community is also important for Mangrove conservation and tourism sustainability in Tanjung Rejo Tourism Village. With that, the community gets economic benefits from tourism activities, such as providing tour guide services, selling local products. Based on the implementation of the Field Project Study (FPS) of the Medan Tourism Polytechnic which has conducted collaborative research between the Government and the community carried out in Tanjung Rejo Tourism Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency in managing Mangrove ecotourism has shown positive results. The community is actively involved in managing and preserving the environment, while the government provides the necessary support. However, existing challenges need to be addressed so that ecotourism management can be sustainable and beneficial for all parties.
