Abstract

This research aims to determine the leadership style of school principals in creating superior schools at Maharati Vocational School, Kapuas Tengah District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. This research is in the form of field research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The choice of Maharati Vocational School was based on information from the local community that this school was located on a difficult to access route, but had good quality. The informants in this research are individuals involved in efforts to create superior schools, including principals, deputy principals, teachers and educational staff.  Research data was obtained through interviews and supporting sources. The research results showed that the leadership style applied by the Maharati Vocational School Principal was a participative leadership style with a transformational democratic type. In creating a superior school, the Principal of Maharati Vocational School has implemented a superior school development strategy by implementing several programs. The implication is that there is a positive impact on schools where students have good character and have good preparation for graduation so they can face challenges in the world of work.
